EMMET SQUARE
Clonakilty, Co.Cork.
This project was part of the Clonakilty 400 project which completely re-designed the towns historic Astna & Emmet Squares. The recently transformed Emmet Square, which created a new open air setting in the town’s centre has won the Public Choice Award category of the Irish Architecture Awards 2014, run by the Royal Institute of Architects of Ireland. The re-developed Emmet Square also involved the installation of an attractive water feature with water jets, new lighting, attractive paving in Irish limestone and a bronze sculpture by leading artist Michael Warren.
RKA were proud to be part of the team lead by the Architects Department of Cork County Council. There were engineering aspects associated with this project which RKA made a valuable contribution to including the civil, drainage, services design, roads, paving, traffic calming and structural elements from design to construction stages on this highly acclaimed re-development project.
